A two-person web studio

Websites worth owning.

Every website we build is held to the same standard, no matter the size of the business. Free to host, yours outright, live in weeks.

  • Free to hostforever, your domain is the only cost
  • Yours outrightthe code, the design, the domain
  • Weeks, not monthsone page in about a week

The idea starts with you. The wiring is our job. The website is yours to keep. Scroll to play the opening sequence, or use the header to navigate.

What we believe

Three things we will not compromise on.

  • A website is something you own

Not something you rent. When we hand it over, it is yours: the code, the design and the domain. Keeping it online costs you nothing, and if we disappeared tomorrow, it would carry on working exactly as it does today.

  • Speed is built in, not switched on

A fast website is the result of how it is made, not a setting applied at the end. Speed does not mean leaving things out, either: animation, bookings, galleries and forms all work as they should. We build them properly, so nothing your site does costs you a visitor who will not wait.

  • Straight answers, including the difficult ones

What it will cost, how long it will take, and what happens if you do not like the result. Small businesses are given vague answers constantly. We would rather give you a real one. We enjoy talking to the people we work for. The questions you ask usually tell us what your business needs.

Where it started

Haida Gwaii, off the coast of British Columbia.

We started on Haida Gwaii, a small group of islands off the west coast of British Columbia. It is not where you would expect a web studio to come from, and that turned out to be the point.

Distance shapes everything out there. Connections are slower than on the mainland, a great many people browse on phones they have owned for years, and most businesses are small and independent. A website has to earn its place. It has to load quickly, say something true, and make it easy to book, call or walk in. We built to that standard because anything less would not have worked.

Those demands do not disappear elsewhere. They are simply easier to ignore. Today we work with small and mid-sized businesses wherever they are, and every site is held to the same standard. It belongs to the business the day it is finished.

The two of us

Who shapes the message, and who builds the site.

We credit the work to the studio rather than to either of us. There are two of us, and this is how the work divides.

Co-founder

Client strategist

“My first question is never about the website. It is about your customers, and what they need to understand before they will pick up the phone or walk through the door. A page that looks expensive but says the wrong thing has still failed you. The conversation comes first, then the words. Every time.”

Leads every project from the first conversation onwards. Establishes what your customers need to know about your business, decides what order they should learn it in, and writes the words on every page.

Co-founder

Website designer

“Every site is built by hand rather than assembled from a template, because a template is always a compromise. Speed matters more than most people expect: if a page is slow, your customer has already gone back to the search results. It has to be something I would be proud to own myself, or it does not go live.”

Designs and builds every website we deliver: how it looks, what is underneath it, and how quickly it loads. A site is only finished when it works on the oldest phone and the slowest connection your customers have.

“A small business should never have to look small online. That is the whole reason we started.”
